چکیده

More and more schools are facing the challenge of preserving local community’s culture while preparing the citizens of the “global village”. In this paper we discuss how communityware can support schools in facing this new challenge. In particular, we describe the experience of a school in Venice, Italy, with the adoption of Campiello, a system supporting the exchange of information among communities living in art cities. The usage of Campiello promoted the capabilities of students to manage knowledge and a more active use of new technologies. More important, Campiello supported a learning process that starts from the students and then involves the local community. This process is, we believe, the basis for the survival of communities able to grow and to open to the external world.
